Architecture & Operation¶

Spool-Only Forwarding
Local Spooler is the spool-only version of PLOSSYS Output Engine and forwards output jobs to a central Output Engine system via IPP, see Local Spooler is ….

Relay Printer Queue
Any job addressed to a printer that Local Spooler cannot identify is sent to the relay printer queue and forwarded via IPP to the target Output Engine system, see configure the printer queue for Windows or for Linux.

Fail-Safe Configuration and Messaging
Consul maintains membership information and distributes the configuration across the cluster in a fail-safe way. SEAL NATS acts as a fail-safe message broker and prevents message loss, see Services > Infrastructure Services.

easyPRIMA Interface
Local Spooler supports easyPRIMA as of version 1.3.0, see preconditions for Windows or for Linux.

OIDC Identity Provider (Optional)
An optional OIDC identity provider can be connected for authentication. SEAL Systems provides a preconfigured identity provider based on Keycloak, the
seal-keycloakservice, but any other OIDC-compliant identity provider can be used instead, see Services > Infrastructure Services.
Printing & Queue Processing¶

LPR, IPP & IPPS
Local Spooler accepts output jobs via the standard printing protocols LPR, IPP, and IPPS, see Ports.

Script as Job Output
Instead of outputting a job to a printer, a script can be executed, for example to copy the spool file to the file system or to send it via e-mail, see the Output Engine documentation on configuring a script as job output for Windows or for Linux.
Logging & Monitoring¶

Prometheus Monitoring
Performance metrics are exposed via a Prometheus interface and can be visualized, for example with Grafana, see Metrics.
